What a time its been for this clown, in just a few short years he has gone from veritable anonymity to becoming one of the first clowns on many peoples Fringe team sheets.
His insights in to politics receive much deserved critical acclaim and the way that he utilises his heritage to spin material is truly masterful. I have thoroughly enjoyed his last two shows and was all set to do so again.
The caveat to this show review is that on this day Pierre had to deal with all manner of issues that were completely out of his control.
He was stuck in an oven like box roasting away because the air conditioning wasn’t functioning. The first twenty minutes of his show were constantly interrupted by latecomers – so much so that he actually had to have a word with the Pleasance staff on the door – and when he opened the side door to let in some much needed cool air a number of his audience were distracted by members of the Pleasance team messing about outside!
The conditions understandably took their toll on our clowns flow… But the material was still pure fire!
We’ll researched and fascinating – who knew that Isis had a members mag? – Pierre’s way of looking at the world is something that I wish more people in power would aspire to. Pointing out that basic common sense would actually flaw massive amounts of standard policy – “How ever will those 15 year old boys get passed the ‘Are you 18?’ question button on pornography websites?”
This was a show that I truly wished I had caught on another night, still hugely enjoyable and an act that I would wholeheartedly recommend and happily watch again, but on this night this felt like an understandably frustrating gig for our clown.
