No, you are not experiencing deja vu, we have in fact covered this particular show before. You can read that glowing Police Cops review right here.

We are writing this redux in response to an accusation from an acquaintance down the pub – a man who has literally replaced all of his joy with bitter! We were discussing these very clowns when the challenge was issued “you only find that shit funny because you’re at the festival and you’ve been drinking all day“.

The man is obviously completely incorrect… we had in fact been drinking all week! But for the sake of experiment (and because we genuinely wanted an excuse to see them again) we rocked up to Soho Theatre for a second viewing of ‘Badass be thy name’. And we couldn’t be happier that we did.

The touring show is actually longer than the fringe version meaning even more antics have been added and seeing it for a second time makes you appreciate the improvised sections – where the aim seems to purely be to break a fellow cop – even more.

This is a joyful show with three of the most energetic and abstract clowns currently on the circuit. Their calamitous style reminds me of Tommy Cooper in that the timely errors and casual nature of the performance are more than likely the result of meticulous design and rehearsal.

‘Badass be thy name’ is a worthy sequel to ‘Police Cops’ and it’s space spin off and we can now officially recommend it anytime, anywhere and to anyone. Right, we’re off to pick up some fish n chip condiments.
