Clownster Comedy

So, yes, this is another comedy review site (like Chortle… only less professional, exhaustive or well written) but these are just my opinions so hardly deserve gospel status. I have been watching live comedy for around 15 years and I have to say that I 100% admire anyone who has the guts to take to a spot lit stage in front of an unknown crowd armed with just a microphone and their wits. It’s a profession that I know I could not do and for that I doff my tiny bowler hat to them.

Mixed Bill: Russell Hicks @ The Castle (2025)

I know, I know – we weren’t supposed to be back here yet. We literally said in our last Castle comedy review that we’d return in December. But here’s what happened… It snowed. It frickin’ snowed. AND we’d spent the... Continue Reading →

Lou Wall: Breaking The Fifth Wall (2025)

So, we enter the Monkey Barrel and an Ich Luger Dragon appears behind the bar and explains that they only sell fire water – an oxymoron if ever we heard one - but she takes us to the wonkavator that... Continue Reading →

Mark Thomas: WD40 (2025)

We’re very aware that this review is late. So very, very late. If we had a proper editor (and I always imagine J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson when I say that), he’d have been screaming at us for over... Continue Reading →

Mixed Bill: Carl Donnelly @ The Castle (2025)

This evening’s story actually started a few months ago, with a simple text from a pal: “Hey mate, just seen this poster — I think Carl Donnelly is playing my local!?!” Yes, that Carl Donnelly. The one we recently dubbed... Continue Reading →

Police Cops: The Original (2025)

Well, this is an absolute treat. We’re sat under the tarpaulin roof of The Unicorn Bar, drinks in hand, sunshine streaming through, and it’s the last day of this year’s Edinburgh Fringe. But that lovely scene isn’t the treat I’m... Continue Reading →

Ivo Graham: Orange Crush (2025)

We’d fled the chaos of Pleasance Courtyard — not far, just down the hill to The Holyrood 9A and its frankly ridiculous gin selection (Rock Rose and Isle of Harris topped our highly scientific taste test, if you’re keeping score).... Continue Reading →

Pierre Novellie: You Sit There, I’ll Stand Here (2025)

Our evening started with chaos: a cab that never turned up, a failed attempt to leg it across town, and, for the first time ever, a missed Fringe show. The silver lining? It gave us plenty of time to get... Continue Reading →

Troy Hawke: WiP (2025)

Don’t you just hate it when your own words come back to bite you in the arse? In our 2023 review of Troy Hawke we boldly declared: “Okay, we fully intended to stop writing anything about work-in-progress shows. We sort... Continue Reading →

Caroline McEvoy: Train Man (2025)

It’s the final day of the Fringe and we’re sat in Assembly Gardens. I’ve just helped the bar “tidy up” the last of its Zubrowka, and we’ve bumped into a journo pal who – bafflingly – has picked today as... Continue Reading →
