Clownster Comedy

So, yes, this is another comedy review site (like Chortle… only less professional, exhaustive or well written) but these are just my opinions so hardly deserve gospel status. I have been watching live comedy for around 15 years and I have to say that I 100% admire anyone who has the guts to take to a spot lit stage in front of an unknown crowd armed with just a microphone and their wits. It’s a profession that I know I could not do and for that I doff my tiny bowler hat to them.

Dave Chappelle: 8:46 (2020)

Do you remember that point in the Shakespeare tragedy King Lear where you know that the King has truly gone insane because the Fool is making all the sense in the world? Well it seems that, in the wake of... Continue Reading →

George Carlin: It’s Bad for Ya (recorded 2008)

For a great many of my generation the first time that we encountered George Carlin was probably as Rufus in the Bill and Ted Movies. A cool and memorable character without doubt. But if that is where you left your... Continue Reading →

Rik Mayall: Live (recorded 1990)

Richard Dangerous, Lord Flashheart, Alan B'stard, Drop Dead Fred, Richie Richard, Kevin Turvey, Rick from the Young Ones... this legendary clown has created so many iconic, scene-stealing characters that he is destined to be discovered by new generations of comedy... Continue Reading →

Nigel Ng: VAULT festival (WiP 2020)

Carl Donnelly & Julian Deane: Two Vegan Idiots (2020)

One of my favourite things about hitting Vault Festival on a Sunday is the fact that the entire venue seemingly comes out of nowhere. One minute you are in a dead part of London with very little going on then... Continue Reading →

Police Cops: Badass Be Thy Name (redux 2020)

No, you are not experiencing deja vu, we have in fact covered this particular show before. You can read that glowing Police Cops review right here. We are writing this redux in response to an accusation from an acquaintance down... Continue Reading →

Mixed Bill: Lauren Pattison @ Monkey Barrel (2020)

We must stress at the outset that this is by no means intended to be a full review of Lauren Pattison, that will surely come at a later date. We had been hoping to catch Lauren Pattison live for a... Continue Reading →

Mitch Hedberg: Mitch All Together (recorded 2003)

"I used to do drugs. I still do, but I used to, too." This is one of Mitch Hedberg more famous quotes, in his unique delivery style it is still very funny but put in to the context of his... Continue Reading →

Victoria Wood: Victoria at the Albert (recorded 2001)

After watching Tim Minchin perform the other night it really got me thinking about all of the other great ivory tinkling clowns. The likes of Flo & Joan and Bill Bailey absolutely know how to rock the keys but whenever... Continue Reading →
