Clownster Comedy

So, yes, this is another comedy review site (like Chortle… only less professional, exhaustive or well written) but these are just my opinions so hardly deserve gospel status. I have been watching live comedy for around 15 years and I have to say that I 100% admire anyone who has the guts to take to a spot lit stage in front of an unknown crowd armed with just a microphone and their wits. It’s a profession that I know I could not do and for that I doff my tiny bowler hat to them.

Larry Dean: Dodger (2024)

As we mentioned in our previous review, this show was the second half of an incredible back-to-back booking with Pierre Novellie. With Monkey Barrel 3 buzzing (we weren't the only ones who thought the double-up would be epic), Larry Dean... Continue Reading →

Pierre Novellie: Must We? (2024)

On this night, we had booked an incredible set of back-to-back shows at Monkey Barrel 3 (still just a fantastic comedy space), with Pierre Novellie immediately followed by Larry Dean. Both have delivered fantastic sets in recent years, so expectations... Continue Reading →

Carl Donnelly: Boosegumps (2024)

A few years ago, I took a friend of mine to see Carl Donnelly for his first ever Fringe stand-up show. Since that day, he has become something of an uber-fan—attending gigs, subscribing to the podcast, going to live recordings,... Continue Reading →

Hugleikur Dagsson: No Idea (2024)

Ben Miller: Volcano (2024)

Just the Tonic has long been one of our favourite Fringe drinking venues, and this year we discovered a new board game in their selection where you make monsters that can attack babies... there is no better way to explain... Continue Reading →

Juliet Cowan: F*ck Off and Leave Me Alone (2024)

Way back in the mid-1990s, there was a TV series that I truly adored. It was cool, ground-breaking, and gave teenage me an insight into a world I was only just beginning to realise existed. It was called This Life,... Continue Reading →

Andrew Maxwell: The Bare Minimum (2024)

There is a scene in the movie Human Traffic where the lead character stops his 'big night out' routine  and says, "But first, a daily injection of the late prophet Bill Hicks... just to remind me not to take life... Continue Reading →

Lauren Pattison: Big Girl Pants (2024)

Four years ago, Eminem set a world record with the third verse of his No. 1 single 'Godzilla' by cramming 225 words into one memorable 30-second blast - that's an average of an incredible 7.5 words per second. Based on... Continue Reading →

Reginald D Hunter: Fluffy Fluffy Beavers (2024)

"This was the ugliest Fringe moment I've ever witnessed" - this was the headline of The Telegraph's review of Reginald D Hunter's latest show. Which begs the question - why would you send a writer without a sense of humour... Continue Reading →
