Clownster Comedy

So, yes, this is another comedy review site (like Chortle… only less professional, exhaustive or well written) but these are just my opinions so hardly deserve gospel status. I have been watching live comedy for around 15 years and I have to say that I 100% admire anyone who has the guts to take to a spot lit stage in front of an unknown crowd armed with just a microphone and their wits. It’s a profession that I know I could not do and for that I doff my tiny bowler hat to them.

London Hughes: One Night in London (2023)

It's been a few years since I'd heard much from London Hughes. Then she, fairly innocently, joined the biggest conversation on social media (following a now infamous Dispatches documentary) and received an unwarranted level of backlash that caught the attention... Continue Reading →

Ed Byrne: Tragedy Plus Time (2023)

Paul Byrne, a respected figure in the world of stand-up comedy, left an indelible mark on the stage before his untimely passing at the age of 44. In this show, his brother Ed pays tribute to Paul's legacy while grappling... Continue Reading →

Eden Sher: I Was On A Sitcom (2023)

I think that the best way to start this review is by stating that I have never seen ‘The Middle’, not for any specific reason, I just seemed to have missed it, but I didn’t want anyone thinking that this... Continue Reading →

Gary Tank Commander: Gary Talks [Yous Listen] (2023)

A few years ago, I was re-watching Fresh Meat, for probably the third time, and I came to the realisation that of all the great characters and actors within the show (Zawe Ashton, Charlotte Ritchie, Joe Thomas etc), Howard, the... Continue Reading →

Pierre Novellie: Why Are You Laughing? (2023)

I’m not sure quite how to word this, because Pierre Novellie has never delivered anything other than a great show, but this one really felt like a return to his very best. He begins by exclaiming how fed up he... Continue Reading →

Robin Ince: MELONS – A Love Letter To Stand-Up Comedy (2023)

It has been quite a while since Robin Ince performed a full run stand-up show, we know this because he is always one of the first clowns we look for when the program drops though our door. So, you can... Continue Reading →

Gail Porter: Hung, Drawn & Portered (2023)

When we first received this year’s Fringe program I started flicking through the pages and this show screamed out at me. Gail Porter was the Michaela Strachan or Lauren Layfield of my generation, a kid’s TV presenter that you always... Continue Reading →

Troy Hawke: WiP (2023)

Okay, we fully intended to stop writing anything about work in progress shows, we sort of had to during COVID as comedians shook off their ring rust, but we know it’s not the norm and don’t plan on doing it... Continue Reading →

Adam Rowe: What’s Wrong With Me? (2023)

My pal was in town for his very first Edinburgh Fringe - Irish born, Manc raised and now a resident of Glasgow - what a combo! Normally when newbies come to town it’s not always easy to pick a show that will... Continue Reading →
